Approximately 2,500 acres of sod are produced in the black dirt region. Wholesale and retail nurseries grow and sell trees, shrubs, and perennial flowers. Christmas tree farms provide "You Cut" products for residents. There is a marked trend toward "farm entertainment" as a marketing niche for horticultural enterprises. Over 200 professional businesses offer landscaping services.
