4-H CLUBS

Orange County 4-H Youth Development staff is partnering with community-based organizations AND families to improve the quality and quantity of afterschool programs and youth activities.

Keeping young people safe, helping working families and inspiring learning are all part of 4-H Afterschool activities. 4-H helps to support youth, parents and community during critical hours when school is over. 4-H Afterschool works with urban, suburban, and rural communities to identify their areas of need and interest and then build customized programs to meet those needs.

4-H programming is flexible enough to be tailored to your organization's needs. Our program staff will work with you to design an age appropriate program to benefit the children in your care.

Youth don't need to live on a farm to join 4-H.

Today our programs revolve around citizenship, healthy living, science, engineering and technology. Choose from over 85 4-H projects, activities and programs within the three major categories:

What is 4-H?

4-H is a youth development program of the national cooperative extension service, offering informal educational programs for youth ages 5 - 19 in numerous formats. In New York State Cornell University Cooperative Extension provides the program.
In 4-H children gain leadership, citizenship and life skills. Parents and other caregivers deliver the 4-H programming, and become the best partners in the child's education to ensure success in life.

What sets 4-H apart as a youth development resource?

Research shows that youth involved in 4-H clubs are more likely to be educationally motivated, have more confidence and communicate better than their peers.
These youth also gain a positive sense of Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity.
Earn awards and recognition on a local, regional, state, or even national level.

How to get started:

The 4-H Staff Representative for your community will help you to organize a 4-H club program consisting of children and parents or other caregivers who will:

Do hands on projects and activities together centered on youth and adult interests;
Experience growth and connection as the community, and knowledgeable people from it, become an additional environment for learning;
Demonstrate and verbally express what they learn as they share it with others;
Give back to their community through service projects and service learning;
Be supported in the experience by our staff with guidance, resources and partnership.
