Middletown, NY — A new collaboration between Cornell University’s College of Engineering and the Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Orange County 4-H Program is bringing an exciting opportunity to local high school students: the AI Literacy Mentoring Program, a hands-on learning experience designed to prepare youth for the future of technology, innovation, and leadership.
Beginning this fall, students will meet weekly with undergraduate mentors from Cornell College of Engineering to explore the foundations of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through interactive projects, real-world case studies, and group discussions. Topics include machine learning, natural language processing, generative AI, and applications of AI in fields such as healthcare, self-driving cars, and finance. Participants will also consider the ethical and cultural impacts of these technologies, gaining a well-rounded understanding of both their promise and challenges.
The program runs in a hybrid format with live Zoom sessions and on-campus experiences through 4-H enrollment. Students who complete the program will earn a digital badge from Cornell Engineering Communication Program, a valuable credential to highlight on resumes, college applications, and scholarship opportunities.
“This program is about more than technology,” said Dr. Wang, Senior Lecturer at Cornell University. “It’s about giving young people the skills, confidence, and ethical framework they need to thrive in a world increasingly shaped by AI.”
High school students interested in STEM, engineering, or future careers in technology are encouraged to enroll. Space is limited.
