Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County is launching a 10-month Master Community Builder Program that introduces and guides participants to apply the concepts that create the conditions for resilience and regenerative well-being. Julika von Stackelberg, Family & Community Resilience Educator says, “We are looking forward to starting the New Year with this program that will develop Master Community Builders who can apply frameworks and strategies that contribute to a more resilient and just community in their respective fields of work, areas of interest, and environments in Orange County.”
Topics include the science of resilience and well-being, critical reflection on historical and social backgrounds, community mapping, social imaginaries, protective factors, regenerative leadership, and more. Von Stackelberg also states that “the program is for everyone who wants to do something and is interested in supporting our communities to navigate challenges related to public and mental health, climate change, community and economic vitality, education, public safety, and public policy.”
The program will launch in February and participants meet every first Saturday in person and attend monthly-Zoom sessions and a class Huddle on Zoom. All Master Community Builders in training work on individual or group projects that build regenerative well-being and resilient communities. The cost of participation is $300, which includes meals, and it will expose participants to various communities and venues around the county. Scholarships are available. Once training is completed, Master Community Builders may continue contributing to group projects and the program.
