Bridging the Gap - Building Community through Intergenerational Programs

Early-bird registration closes on 9/29 - Registration for the 21st Annual Making Healthful Decisions conference with the theme of building community through intergenerational program is open.

The purpose of this conference, which will be held on October 27, 2017, from 8 am – 3 pm at the Ramada Inn in Newburgh, is to acquaint participants with the most current research regarding building and enriching of communities through intergenerational programs activities, spaces and living arrangements.

Karl Pillemer, Ph.D., from Cornell University will deliver the keynote speech: Lessons for Living from the Oldest (and Wisest) Americans, which represent less of an oral history, but rather what lessons individuals 65 and above have drawn from their experiences.

Other programming includes a presentation on intergenerational living spaces by Tiba Araujo, M.A., founder of Entre Familia, and activities for all generations by the founder of the Center for Creative Education in Kingston, “Drew,” Bryant Andrews.

Early registration is $60 per person and $45 for students and seniors. Registration after September 29th will be $75, and the final registration deadline is October 20th. As per a past conference participant, “The organizers of this conference are to be commended for designing and presenting consistently worthwhile conferences year after year.”

The conference is organized by the Orange County Parenting Coalition in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County, Maternal Infant Services, the Mid-Hudson Early Childhood Direction Center and the Warwick Valley Community Center.
