11:00 AM -
2:00 PM
Let's build something creative! This year's goal is to water a plant.
Contest is Saturday, July 23rd.
Guidelines:
- Machine must have a minimum of 7 steps and a maximum of 15 steps. A single step is defined as a transfer of energy.
Examples:
Ball rolls down a ramp and springs a mousetrap
The mousetrap pulls a string causing a scissor to cut
The scissors cut a cord, causing a weight to fall
Weight drops on tin foil, causing light bulb to turn on
- At least 3 of the steps must use a simple machine (lever, screw, gear or wheel and axle, pulley, inclined plane, or wedge)
Contact Kat Leo at 845-344-1234 or kal64@cornell.edu for more information or with any questions.
About Rube Goldberg:
Rube Goldberg Machine is a chain reaction-type machine or contraption intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overly complicated way. Usually, these machines consist of a series of simple unrelated devices; the action of each triggers the initiation of the next, eventually resulting in achieving a stated goal.
