  • July 13th - Mindfulness for Stress Reduction- Julika von Stackelberg, Family and Community Resilience Educator, Orange County CCE 
    • In this workshop participants will learn how to use mindfulness tools that reduce everyday stress and thereby increase their overall quality of life. 
      • Topics include: • What is mindfulness • How you can train your brain to focus • Practical tools for every day to reduce stress and increase inner harmony 
  • July 20th—Move Your Way To A Better Day—Emily Erlenbach PhD student, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
    • Exercise is cost-free, natural way to reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. In this presentation we will dive into the physiology of what causes stress/anxiety/depression, how these mood states impact our body, and how exercise can be used to combat them. Learn the science of why exercise can put you in such a good mood and what you can do to optimize its benefits!
  • July 27th—Phthalates, BPA and the Developing Brain—Elli Sellinger PhD student, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 
    • Chemicals like BPA and phthalates are a popular and widely used choice in water bottles and food packaging because they make these plastics flexible, but to our bodies, they also look a lot like hormones. Where else are these chemicals found, and how do they affect our health? Elli will dive into how hormones, like estrogen and testosterone, shape the developing brain and how chemicals like BPA and phthalates can mess with this process.
  • August 3rd—Free Radical Fighters—Understanding the Importance of Antioxidants -Breanna Metras USDA Fellow and PhD Student, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
    • Antioxidants are everywhere! Have you ever wondered how they work in your body to reduce inflammation and fight off cancer development? Learn about the natural antioxidant properties of many fruits and vegetables, how to increase intake in day to day living, and WHY these changes will have your body saying thank you!
  • August 10th—Don't Sleep on Sleep -Corinne Cannavale PhD Candidate, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
    • Don't sleep on sleep: How sleeping can impact brain functioning Do you know why we sleep? We all have experienced a bad nights sleep that leaves us sluggish and irritable, but what are the benefits of a good nights sleep? In this session we will discuss what we know about why we sleep and how lack of sleep can impact our daily life.
