Make Half Your Grains Whole
Whole grains contain the entire grain kernel- the bran, germ
and endosperm.
ChooseMyPlate.govhas great tips and suggestions to make this happen:
- Be a smart shopper- read the ingredients list
and choose products that name a whole-grain ingredient first on the list make sure to look for the word whole.
- Make simple switches- substitute a whole grain
product for a refined grain product.
- Cook extra whole grains and freeze half to serve
at another meal.
- Read the Nutrition Facts label to check the fiber content of whole grain foods- a
good source contains 10- 19% of the Daily Value; excellent sources contain 20%
or more.
