This fire season has set records in New York and New Jersey and drought conditions have fueled the flames. Despite some rain, the current wildfire in part of the Greenwood Lake area and beyond is still burning. Winds are a concern and could contribute to additional spreading. It also continues to impact air quality, as smoke billows throughout the affected areas. We encourage anyone in the affected areas to stay up to date with the ongoing situation.
The CCE NY Extension Disaster Education Network (NY EDEN) has resources to help understand and manage the impact of disasters, including fires and wildfires at this link:
In the meantime, New York's Department of Environmental Conservation Division of Forest Protection & Management are continuing to work with their New Jersey counterparts to battle the fire.
