2021 STORMWATER MANAGEMENT TRAINING SERIES
featuring John Dunkle PE, CPESC, CMS4 as the Lead Instructor and
Curriculum Coordinator

The New York Stormwater Regional Training Centers (SW RTC) are a Statewide Partnership between Saratoga and Orange County Cornell Cooperative Extensions, the Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board, and the Stormwater Coalition of Monroe County & Monroe County SWCD. Our goal is to provide the best technical training to all stormwater professionals working in New York State.

The Regional Training Centers are dedicated to providing stormwater professionals with the best possible information, education, and training to help better manage stormwater runoff and keep all of our waters clean.

COURSE SCHEDULE & DESCRIPTIONS

All classes will be held virtually via Zoom from 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM. You will receive the Zoom link once registered. The registration fee(s) will include all course materials.

POST CONSTRUCTION STORMWATER MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ~ 4.0 NYS PIE PDHs

Wednesday, April 7th, 2021 - REGISTRATION IS CLOSED AS OF 4/5/2021

From dry detention to tree plantings, the NYS Stormwater Design Manual outlines the numerous possibilities for selecting practices to meet the permit requirements for peak flow mitigation, water quality treatment and runoff reduction. This class will review the characteristics and performance of each of these practices, and will provide an overview of the many considerations that must be made to choose the most appropriate ones for site specific needs. Practice sizing, construction and maintenance of each practice will also be covered.

STORMWATER FILTRATION AND INFILTRATION PRACTICES ~ 4.0 NYS PIE PDHs

Wednesday, April 28th, 2021 - REGISTRATION IS CLOSED AS OF 4/26/2021

Filtration and infiltration are effective mechanisms for stormwater pollutant removal, and are present in many stormwater management practices employed for water quality treatment and runoff reduction. This class will examine the essential aspects and design standard of stormwater practices that use filtration and infiltration, including initial design considerations, evaluation of options, testing, sizing, construction, and most importantly: long term maintenance.

STORMWATER PONDS AND WETLANDS ~ 4.0 NYS PIE PDHs

Wednesday, May 19th, 2021 - REGISTRATION IS CLOSED AS OF 5/17/2021

Registration Deadline: Monday, May 17th, 2021

Stormwater ponds and wetlands have proven to be one of the most popular group of stormwater management practices employed by designers. And with good reason; they provide both water quality and quantity treatment, while also creating diverse natural ecosystems. This class will examine the various components of stormwater pond and wetland systems, and will review the numerous design elements, sizing criteria, and maintenance requirements needed for their proper operation.

EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL PRACTICES ~ 4.0 NYS PIE PDHs

Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 - REGISTRATION IS CLOSED AS OF 6/7/2021

Registration Deadline: Monday, June 7th, 2021

An Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plan is a required element of all construction projects needing stormwater permit coverage in NY. Following the guidance provided in NY’s 2016 “Blue Book”, this class will review the various techniques for planning, runoff management, soil stabilization, and sedimentation control that serve to minimize erosion, sediment transport and sediment deposition from exposed soils. Proper site-specific practice selection, design, placement, construction and maintenance of these E & S practices will also be covered.

SWPPP PREPARATION AND REVIEW ~ 4.0 NYS PIE PDHs

Wednesday, June 30th, 2021 - REGISTRATION IS CLOSED AS OF 6/28/2021

Registration Deadline: Monday, June 28th, 2021

Preparing, reviewing and implementing a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) is essential to stormwater management for both the public and private sectors. The SWPPP is a key component of the Construction General Permit and of Minimum Control Measures 4, 5, and 6 of the MS4 General Stormwater Permit. This class will review all of the required elements of partial and full SWPPP’s, including site planning, E & S, hydrology, good housekeeping, post construction management and maintenance. Preparation and review checklists will be provided and examined.

Course materials will be provided electronically. Additional details will be sent to registered individuals prior to the class date including the Zoom registration information to access the course. The Zoom link will be sent to the e-mail address you provide on the registration form. This email address will also serve as primary confirmation for PDH credits. 4 PDHs are expected to be awarded for all of these classes.

Deadline for registration is TWO DAYS prior to each course.

If you are registering more than 5 attendees, it is preferable if you do so by calling Marie at 845-344-1234, extension 262.
